Privacy policy
Most privacy policies are long because the site collects a lot. This one is short for the opposite reason. Your answers to the test are scored on your own device and never sent to us, so for the part of the site you actually came for, there is almost nothing to hand over in the first place.
Who is responsible
This site, the Five-Factor Inventory, is operated and published by its editorial team, referred to here as "we", "us", and "the operator". The operator is the data controller for the limited data described below and is the party you deal with on any privacy matter. To reach the person accountable for data on this site, write to [email protected] and we will respond.
Your test answers
The questionnaire runs entirely in your browser. As you answer, the scoring happens locally on your device, and the result is generated there too. We never receive your answers, we do not store them, and there is no account to tie them to. Close the tab and they are gone. Nothing about your responses is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
What is collected when you visit
Visiting any website leaves some technical traces, and this one is no exception. The two sources are worth naming clearly.
Server logs
Our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical details for each request, such as your IP address, the type of browser and device you use, the page requested, and the time. Logs of this kind are ordinary across the web and are used to run the site and keep it secure. They are short-lived and are not used to build a profile of you.
Web fonts
The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. To deliver them, your browser sends a request to Google, and that request includes your IP address. Google states that the fonts are served without cookies, and that the request data is used to run the service rather than to build an advertising profile of you. We pass nothing else to Google, and this is the one third party involved in an ordinary visit. If you would rather avoid it, a browser extension or privacy setting that blocks third-party requests will stop the fonts from loading without breaking the test.
What we do not do
- We run no analytics and set no tracking cookies of our own.
- We show no advertising and use no advertising or profiling cookies.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data, because we do not hold a store of it to begin with.
If any of this changes, for example if advertising or analytics is introduced later, this page will be updated first, the date at the top will change, and anything that calls for your consent will ask for it rather than running quietly in the background. The cookie policy covers that side in more detail.
Legal basis and your rights
Where data protection law applies to you, including the EU and UK GDPR, the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and similar laws elsewhere, you have rights over personal data held about you. These usually include the right to ask what is held, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to certain uses, and to complain to your local regulator. You can exercise them by writing to [email protected]. Be aware that for the most part we simply do not hold personal data about you, so there is often little for us to retrieve or erase, and a hosting provider's short-term security logs may be the only record that ever existed.
International visitors
The site is reachable worldwide and may be served from, or routed through, infrastructure in countries other than your own. The third-party font service described above operates internationally as well. Because we do not collect a body of personal data, these cross-border flows are limited to the ordinary technical requests any website involves.
Children
This site is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. A young person can read about personality here, but the interpretations are written for an adult audience.
Changes to this policy
When our practices change, this page changes with them, and the date at the top shows when it last did. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect, not after.
