Skincare: This is the basis of your every day beauty regime. Standard practice would start with a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser and eye cream. This allows you to prepare your skin for application of your make-up. Equally so, it prepares your skin for a day in the sun presuming you apply an SPF sunscreen. The most revolutionary category to hit the beauty market over the last 6 years are serums. Serums have smaller molecules than moisturisers, so can penetrate further into the skin, depositing nutrients and additional moisture and hydration.

Buyer’s choice: “I absolutely love, love, love serums! These include Estee Lauder ANR, Dior One Essential and Lancôme Génifique. Personally, I feel serums give me so much additional hydration, my skin feels firmer and my friends all comment on how much more youthful I look.”

Foundations and blushers: Prior to application of a foundation you should always use a primer. This allows for a smoother application of your foundation for greater coverage and helps it last longer. A good foundation requires expert beauty advice to ensure the correct consistency (liquid or powder) but most importantly the correct colour match to your skin. Concealer is used to cover any imperfections. It is often used for additional coverage needed to cover blemishes, or any other marks. Concealer is often thicker and more solid than foundation, and provides longer lasting, and more detailed coverage.

Buyer choice: “As always, my favourite is YSL Touche Eclat; this covers all of those dark circles and blemishes while acting as a fabulous illuminator.”

Eyes: The most important aspect of applying colour is to decide if it is lips or eyes you want to accentuate, don’t do both! Eyeshadow is commonly used to make the wearer's eyes stand out or to look more attractive. Eye shadow is applied on the eyelids and under the eyebrows. Eye shadow adds depth and dimension to one's eyes, complements the eye colour, or simply draws attention to the eye.

Buyer’s choice: “Like most women I am not a confident colour wearer, however after a consultation with the JR Beauty Advisors I have discovered how simple it is to get a professional eye shadow look. Dior and Chanel create looks for each season enabling amateurs to replicate an on trend expert eye.”

Lips: The best basis to create amazing lips is to start with a lip pencil. A lip pencil smoothes the shape of the outline of the lips and prevents the lipstick bleeding, giving the lipstick a longer life. Lip pencils can also dramatically change the lipstick colour. Many lipsticks on the market today have additional benefits such as moisturizing, smoothing, plumping and long lasting. Lip glosses are often used over lipstick to create additional sheen. These can be used when a person wants to have some colour on the lips, but does not want an intense, solid lip colour effect.

Buyer’s choice: “I currently adore the lip and nail combinations whereby I can match up my OPI nail colour to my lipstick. It’s all about lips and tips! I am still totally addicted to my lip glosses for their additional hydration value and their colour variations and still loving the Chubby Sticks from Clinique.”

Fragrances are a mixture of essential oils and aromas. The smell of a particular fragrance will vary slightly from person to person, as each person's individual skin chemistry and body temperature will react slightly differently to a given scent. All fragrances fall into family groups such as floral, woody, spicy and fresh. Lighter fragrances work better for daytime with heavier musky scents for a night out. During the day an eau de toilette (EDT) or eau de cologne (EDC) works best. During the evenings a more concentrated fragrance can be used such as an eau de parfum (EDP). Apply fragrances to your wrist to try them. This gets the truest representation of how the fragrance will smell on you.

Buyer’s choice: “2012 is the year of new fragrances. Marc Jacobs Dot brought a new dimension to the beautiful art form bottles, the colour and ladybird shape is outstanding. Not only is the juice great but the bottle is a collectors piece. Elle Saab’s new EDT is amazing; I get comments every time I wear this fragrance. Lancôme is launching La Vie Est Belle for October, this is a fabulous addition for this brand, such a sensuous fragrance. Pleats Please from Issey Myake has also been a highlight for the year.”
